PostSubject: jesus the word   Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:54 am

having read numerous times the intro to the gospel of John, I want to put forward a question which confused me for a long time.

the question is this....

why is jesus referred to as the 'word' and what would be the significance of this to a jewish believer.

Fr example, what does 'word' mean (i already know logos), is their a mystical/metaphysical meaning from jewish mysticism?

In the Torah and Tanack, you will see this is employed many times.

The Word of the L-RD came to __________________

At other times you will read, the angel of the L-RD came to____________

I believe that the word may be a vision or dream whereas the angel would be in a more physical way.

We see this in the land, when Joshua had gotten them crossed over, he came upon the angel of the L-RD ( which may be the same one who lead them in a cloud thoroughout the 40 years).
If you read the surrounding text of these you will see that they are first person and related to HaShem himself.

So the 'Word of the L-RD' would be understood as now being made 'flesh'. How he was before, maybe like he was after the resurrection?

Gotta go, roof is leaking

i am just coming to terms with things like 'mamre' and 'debar', and so the verse is coming to make a lot more sense.

i do wish i could read hebrew - know anyone who can do brain transplants....
