Steve I come in every day and I wonder where everyone is myself.....maybe this is the calm before the storm....maybe soon we'll get so many new members we won't know what to do with them.....wouldn't that be great !! I'd like to tell you something that happened to us over the weekend which I'm still coming to terms with, and you'll probably think I'm crazy...but..... On Saturday night we received a phone call from dear friends, asking us to join them on their daughters boat the following day (Sunday) for a boating lunch. We were very excited and of course accepted the invitation. The invitation didn't come directly from the husband and wife who own the boat, but as I said...our friends, who are the parents of the wife...who owns the boat. These people...who own the boat...are very well off financially....they are local business people and we hadn't met them before. They were very nice and welcoming and we had a lovely day. But they are...as I said, very well off financially, and Brian and I live in a very modest little house and live on the pension. When these people talked about things, they talked in the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.....they are having a new house built, but it's going to cost 45 THOUSAND DOLLARS....just to have the plans for the house drawn up. The boat we went out on was...so I was told...quite cheap...only worth $50k...but they have what they call the BIG BOAT....it's 50ft long...we didn't get to see it because it's in for some minor repairs and upgrades. Lord only knows how much that would be worth.... We did have a lovely day, it was warm and sunny, dolphins swam next to the boat and it was fantastic....BUT....I felt quite uncomfortable because I'm not used to mixing socially with people who have so much money. Our friends, the older couple, have strongly suggested that we will be invited to go out with them more often in the BIG BOAT as our southern summer comes closer. But the prospect makes me feel very uncomfortable.....their world is totally different from mine....their "big boat" would most probably be worth more than my house and land put together....... I'm not jealous of them, but material things like that just don't impress me terribly, and I never thought I'd be invited to mix socially with people who had money. I'm sure these people deserve everything they have, they work hard and have wonderful things to show for it. But I really don't want to go boating with them again and I don't think our friends, the older couple, will understand why......not really sure that I understand why myself....I guess most people would jump at the chance.
Any thoughts about my prediament Smiles to everyone....Vella.

| you never know, you might come to enjoy there company...
look on it as in opportunity to make new friends. Yeah i know it is difficult to make friends with people who you do not think you will gel with. I know exactly that thinking exactly, cause I have been there and done it.
You know me, nurse, poor, odd sense of humour, i am supposed to be a people person, but I hate it when my wife drags me off to a party. I hate socialising. Hate it with a vengeance. I cannot think of anything worse than meeting new people. Did i say i do not like it...
But occasionally you meet someone nice. My best mate 'maggs' was a complete no starter. We had nothing, and I mean nothing in common. Now we see each other every so often and it does not matter if its been a day or a month. I have other friends like that, where you can pick up exactly where you left off and after a while you put the differences behind you.
Take a deep breath and jump in, you never know where you may end up. Alternatively the boat may sink and the friendship with the others may also.
