Abraham's instructions to his servant

Gen 24:2 "And Abraham said unto his
eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I
pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:"

Plus Jacob required Joseph to do the same.

Is this like pledging to the max to do what they're promising to do?

under the rules of this forum, questions may be asked in any forum, not simply the one where they may be most appropriate.

therefore if a person wishes to ask a question about something from the old testament, they are welcome to post it in this forum or any other.

I get what she's saying and welcome the question it is a good one! See in the ancient world, especially for Israel, progeny was very important, very! Having said that you may understand more when I tell you what Abraham asked his servant to do was the max , as you say of a sworn oath. See in biblical vernacular, the thigh is an area that goes from the knee, up and around the genitals and back down the other thigh. What he was basically doing was putting his hand on Abraham's scrotum ( that's what the 'under' part means) and in doing this he knew that what he was swearing to do would affect all Abraham's seed, and we know how important that was, don't we? Wink
